About Mariposa Collective

Our mission is to empower youth of color with popular & resistance-based education, strengthen community relationships with creative arts workshops, and build a mentorship network for first-generation women of color. We do this through an intersectional and intergenerational lens while amplifying art activism as a response to institutionalized violence.

Our Pillars

Youth Education

Mariposa Collective provides youth education programs focused on social issues, art, and activism. Year 1 is the Social Justice Scholars Program, Year 2 is Activism as Practice Internship, and Year 3 is a Fellowship for college students.

Community Workshops

We host virtual and in-person community events that range different topics like poetry and spoken word, art collaging, journaling, sex education, immigrant rights, and book clubs.

Mentorship Network

Women of Color Rising (WCR) is our mentorship network where high school students, college students, and women in the workforce are matched to promote professional development opportunities.

What Sets Us Apart

Our team’s strengths truly lie in our multifaceted identities and lived experiences where we are able to bring unique perspectives to build an understanding of the world. Our adaptability as a group helps us embrace uncertainty to ensure we continue to develop a reliable, trustworthy, and accessible community space for girls and women of color. Our relationships and collaboration are rooted in our shared commitment to create meaningful projects that promote educational opportunities for young girls and provide professional opportunities for women of color in the workforce. We are extremely intentional in our discussions and decisions, especially when we are building a community space that is meant to serve others. That is why we have a strong emphasis in involving young people ages 16-24 into our strategic design process.

Each of us is involved in a different field — public policy, higher education, public health, and youth/community work. This multidisciplinary approach enriches our decision making because we are equal thought-partners in the Mariposa Collective.
